North Gateway

The North Gateway Streetscape Project, a joint initiative of the Forest Hill Village BIA, City of Toronto Economic Development, and Parks, to enhance the Spadina Rd. edge of Suydam Park with added seating, planters and subtle lighting, is set to get underway this week.

This is the next stage of the Forest Hill Village Masterplan that began with the building of Montclair Parkette. The goals for the project are:

- To enhance the streetscape at Suydam park for pedestrians with lighting, seating and planting so they can enjoy the park setting,

- To enhance the use of the park for community events by providing a small gathering area at the south gateway into the park,

- To identify the entry into Forest Hill Village from the North.

The staging area boundaries inside which construction will take place will be put up sometime the week of April 20th, with construction set to begin before the end of April. The BIA has asked that sidewalk access be maintained, and for minimal disruption to on-street parking, but some equipment will need to be stored and used from the street, and the sidewalk may be closed for some stages of construction.

All the main elements of the project should be completed, and this portion of the park reopened, by late June. However, due to manufacturing timelines, the installation of custom light poles is expected in August.

During the construction period, Suydam park can be accessed via Strathearn Blvd. and pedestrians may be directed to use the sidewalk on the east side of Spadina Rd.
